Julie Mehretu-Painter/Printmaker (b.1970)

Julie Mehretu is an important American artist best known for her densely-layered abstract paintings and prints. She also creates large scaled installations of drawings.

The video below features Mehretu working at the famous Crown Point Press in San Francisco. There she creates a series of etchings that translates her ideas and style found in her paintings and drawings.





Mehretu was born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Recently, she became a recipient of the highly prestigious MacArthur Foundation Genius Grant. She currently resides and works out of her Harlem, NY studio.
