Carpe Diem In Effect At The Palm Harbor Library
Recently, my work has been on display at the Palm Harbor Library in Palm Harbor, FL. This show is very special to me because it is the first solo opportunity I received to exhibit in the Tampa Bay area. Moving cross-country from Monterey, CA to Tampa, FL was emotionally difficult and I was a little anxious about getting my work out before this new community.
Once I settled into South Tampa, I would constantly troll the Internet for opportunities. I came across the Cultural Council of Hillsborough County website which listed the Palm Harbor Library call. I applied and my work was accepted. This was a big confidence booster for me. I know-my ego is fragile.
Evelyn Slama, the Palm Harbor Library Art Liason, was wonderful to work with. She did a great job hanging and marketing the show. I especially appreciate her working with me to provide a successful live painting experience for the patrons of the library that occurred on June 12, 2010. Both the exhibit and demo were well received. I have to say the exposure my work received was highly positive.
currently on display at Palm Harbor Library (May- June 30, 2010)
So the moral of the story, is that Internet trolling works! They are plenty of opportunities out there. You just have to be ready when they present themselves. That means keeping your materials ( bio, artist statements, images, portfolios, etc..) ready and up to date.
The exhibit closes later this month on June 30th. The works on display are: "Chilling", "The Tempest", "Composition B", "Cold House", "Hot House", "XO", and "Sabre Girl".
