Fog Cutter For My Mind

You know Starbucks is trading at a little over $40/share.

Me thinks I really need to invest in this company. Why? Because I am their best FREAKING customer!

Why is their cup of Pike better than mine?....Well, it ISN'T always better.  But I think its the environment that Starbucks provides me that is conducive to my mindset.  Just being able to go there helps my brain matter.

In my house, there is always housework..the is always something to do or to be done . I think it is harder to work at your business if your office is in the home especially in the common area of the household.

I suspect that it is the environment AND the hot joe that gets my juices flowing. My coffee addiction has always been more than just about the caffeine.  I associate the very smell of a  hot cup of strong coffee with "work"...being able to or in the condition to work.  Just holding a hot cup of good smelling coffee calms me...allowing me to settle myself and get to work. This is true even if I don't drink that said cup...

Anyway, last night the coffee at my local Starbucks was right on...perfect! It was 9:45 pm and for the first time that day I felt like myself after a few sips. I was able to write some decent content for various blogs, my brain was working, I was no longer feeling sluggish. Yes, I admit to the addiction but there is more going on here...

I am exhausted. I'm coming off two months of back to back art events, exhibits, teaching, demonstations.   I hardly sleep and all this is done around the needs of an eleven and three year old and the occasional husband.  I thought I was coming down with something or having PMS symptoms...something...

Some of you may assume that what I am experiencing is coffee withdrawal but I don't think so. Heaven forbid! Besides,  I had two cups earlier in the day between 7-10 am. Italian Roast, not my favorite.. strong but too smoky for me. For the caffeine hit, I should have been fine but what I'm getting at is that it's not just about the caffeine with me.

It's the taste, the smell, the heat and maybe even the space that I drink it in. It must all be right...then I can work unencumbered and my genius can flow....

I am sure I'm not alone is this...eh?

You are not alone! I love Starbucks and just as much as the coffee, I love just being there. I love the feeling of the hot cup in my hand and the smell of the espresso is divine. Starbucks refers to the environment and feeling they have created as the third place...home - first, work - second, Starbucks - third.

I came across your blog while searching for abstract periodic tables. Your work is beautiful, awesome! I love it!

Thanks Jeanne! I am glad I am not alone. I actually use Starbucks as my office away from home.

I am glad you found my work and it resonated with you! Happy a great holiday season and I look forward to our continued dialogue!

Best regards,

Princess
