Paperworks Patrons Make The Connection
The Paperworks 4ME II reception at the Lake Eustis Museum of Art was great. The artworks by the other participating artists were all top notched. There was a good turnout of artists from across Central and Northeast Florida as well as regular museum patrons.
I was most pleased to realize that people really connected with the printmaking aspect of my paintings. Printmaking encourages using the paper itself as a component of the work. My training as a printmaker is finally merging with my vision as a painter.
I have been experimenting with leaving areas of the the paper untouched as negative space. The natural white of the paper left visible in the finished painting tends to add an element of freshness and spontaneity to the work. I’m interested in the tension that is created between the spontaneous and deliberate layers of paint application.
Both paintings are available for purchase. They will be on display at the Lake Eustis Museum until January 10, 2010.
